Lochlan Fennell
Dr Fennell is an early career researcher with research interests at the intersection of ageing, epigenetic and cancer initiation. Dr Fennell completed his PhD at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute under the supervision of Associate Professor Vicki Whitehall. During his doctoral studies, Dr Fennell investigated the role of DNA Methylation in colorectal cancers using high throughput microarrays and sequencing approaches. Most recently, Dr Fennell established that pervasive accumulation of DNA Methylation in the ageing colon predisposes to spontaneous neoplastic transformation following exposure to oncogenic BRAF. Dr Fennell's research has been published in leading gastroenterology and epigenetics journals, including Gut, Cellular and Molecular Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Clinical Epigenetics. In 2022, Dr. Fennell moved to the Monash Biomedical Discovery Institute to initiate a research program investigating cancer and ageing using genomic and computational approaches.
